House Resolution 26
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LEAKE ACADEMY REBELETTES BASKETBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING 1998-1999 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MPSA OVERALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Leake Academy Rebelettes Basketball Team finished the 1998-1999 season with a perfect record of 46-0; and
WHEREAS, throughout their season, the Rebelettes participated in several tournaments, which included victories as the District Champions, the South 3A Champions, the State 3A Champions and the MPSA Overall Champions; and
WHEREAS, the Rebelettes were superbly coached and inspired by Coach Doyle Wolverton, who has broadened the players knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, Coach Wolverton has brought additional honor to Leake Academy on being named the District Coach of the Year, the State 3A Coach of the Year, the MPSA Overall Coach of the Year and as the Coach of the Year in the State of Mississippi by The Clarion-Ledger; and
WHEREAS, many individual honors were bestowed among the players, including the selection of Amy Barrett to the All-District Team, the All-South State Team, the All-State Team, the All-Overall State Team and the All-Star Team; the naming of Chenoa Coleman to the All-District Team, the All-South State Team, the All-State Team, the All-Overall State Team and the All-Star Team; the selection of Emily Dees to the All-District Team, the All-South State Team, the All-State Team, the All-Overall State Team, the All-Star Team and as the Most Valuable Player in the District; the naming of Amanda Gulley to the All-District Team, the All-South State Team, the All-State Team and All-Overall State Team; the selection of Stephanie Thornton to the All-District Team and the All-Overall State Team; and the naming of Lori Cumberland to the All-District Team; and
WHEREAS, the Rebelettes have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Leake Academy; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Leake Academy Rebelettes Basketball Team and Coach Doyle Wolverton for their outstanding 1998-1999 season, for winning the MPSA Overall State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Leake Academy, Coach Doyle Wolverton and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
